Paul Bunyan's Flume Ride
Paul Bunyan
"Paul Bunyan" is a 17-minute animated short released in 1958. It features Thurl Ravenscroft as the voice of Paul with songs by The Mellomen. Decades later it was released as part of a "package film" with segments about Johnny Appleseed, Casey Jones, and a new John Henry short. Titled "Disney's American Legends," each short was introduced by James Earl Jones.
In my Disney Park, Paul Bunyan's Flume Ride takes the place of Splash Mountain, thus avoiding the perceived need for a re-theme from the Song of the South characters to Tiana, the Frog Princess. Paul stands 63-axe handles high above Fokeloreland, providing a "wienie" for that corner of the park. Despite multiple opportunities to do so, I rode Splash Mountain only one time before its closure in 2023.
